If they want to state the case that they are "Pacific Islanders" would that not make Japanese, Malaysians, and Indonesians not Asian since they too are islands situated in the Pacific ocean. Well the geographical argument is definitely a valid point for Filipinos to be considered Asian (if they so please to identify), but there are always different classifications depending on the culture and people. It’s all a matter of perspective - but what matters most is how the individual wishes to identify and whether or not he/she can make a stand for his/her own interpretation of his/her ethnic identity.
